FAQ’s

Below are a number of questions I’m often asked about Hypnobirthing. This is by no means an exhaustive list and is meant just as an overview, so if you do have any questions please give us a call on 01482 491280 or via the contact page.

How do I book and make payment?

The easiest way is the contact form on each page, or you could email or call me. I will need to know your name and when your baby is likely to be born. I take a £50 deposit when you book. The rest of the payment I am happy to take by instalments.

Do you offer taster sessions?

I offer free, no obligation taster/information sessions. Look out for my taster sessions on Twitter and Facebook or contact me so we can meet.

When should I begin the classes?

You may prefer to attend the course early in your pregnancy so that you have maximum time to practice and completely immerse yourself in the programme. Success is strongly linked to how much practice you do. I recommend that you start after your 20 week ultrasound scan, between 22 and 25 weeks. Although those who attend much later can do well if committed to the programme.

Can I come alone?

Yes, the course can work well if you come alone although having a birth partner attend with you is very useful as they can support and prompt you regarding the skills you’ve learnt ready for the birth. Attendance by the father also establishes a bond between himself and the baby that begins during the pregnancy. Alternatively you may wish to attend with your mother, sister or a friend.

If hypnobirthing involves hypnosis wont I be asleep or out of control?

It’s a common misconception to equate hypnobirthing with stage hypnosis. During hypnobirthing you will use self-hypnosis to achieve deep relaxation whilst being fully aware and completely in control. No one can be made to do anything they do not wish to do.

Does the thought of birth scare you?

Having knowledge can be very reassuring and empowering. The classes will dispell any fears you have regarding birth, leaving you feeling confident and in control. I advise you look at the Association for Improvements in Maternity Services (AIMS), which is an excellent resource for pregnancy and birth.

Can you guarantee my birth will be pain free?

No one can promise you a pain free birth as birth has its own agenda and doesn’t always go to plan. The aim of KG Hypnobirthing is not a completely pain free birth (although this is possible) but to have a calmer, easier and more comfortable birth where you are in control.

Is it true that hypnobirthing babies sleep better?

Yes they do. They are born calm and alert, they establish breastfeeding quickly, feel satisfied and as a result sleep better.

Is it safe to use hypnobirthing in a birthing pool?

Yes most definitely. The relaxing affects of water can help you remain comfortable during the birth. They are now widely available in hospitals, birthing centres and to hire for home births.

Are the classes suitable for those who have had a previous section?

All the classes are designed to give you a natural and normal delivery by helping you stay calm and in control and many women have successful VBAC’s (vaginal birth after cesarean) using the KG Hypnobirthing techniques.

Should I bring or wear anything in particular?

There is nothing in particular that you need to bring to the course. Wear comfortable clothing  that you are able to relax in. All course material and refreshments will be provided when you attend.
